Get ready to dive back into id Software’s Doom 3. In VR, no less. Announced via PlayStation Blog, Doom 3: VR Edition will arrive March 29 for PlayStation 4, and will be backwards compatible for the PlayStation 5.
Doom 3: VR Edition features the base Doom 3 game and its expansions, Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Mission, which have been optimized for use with the PSVR. All-new VR enhancements include the ability to peer around corners, angle your shots using the motion controls, a new 180-degree quick-turn function, and a wrist-mounted display to track your health, armor and ammo.
Sadly for those purists, this still isn’t the original version of Doom 3. Rather, it’s the BFG Edition, which brings along with all of those aesthetic changes (the aforementioned flashlight, lighting and sound tweaks) that you might not like.
Still, it’s Doom 3 in some form, and with over 15 hours of content and a focus on survival horror, it’s still quite the contrast to 2016’s DOOM and DOOM Eternal. You can also snag the non-VR version of Doom 3 on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
