[Images] ‘Stowaway’: Toni Collette and Anna Kendrick Take off to Mars in Sci-Fi Thriller Heading to Netflix on April 22

Joe Penna, director of the Mads Mikkelsen-starring Arctic, is next headed to outer space for the sci-fi thriller Stowaway, which EW learned today heads to Netflix on April 22, 2021.

The magazine also heads to mars with the first-ever photos from the sci-fi thriller, revealing the cast that includes the likes of Hereditary‘s Toni Collette and Anna Kendrick (A Simple Favor), alongside Daniel Dae Kim (Hellboy) and Shamier Anderson (“Wynonna Earp”).

In the film…

“On a mission headed to Mars, an unintended stowaway (Anderson) accidentally causes severe damage to the spaceship’s life support systems. Facing dwindling resources and a potentially grim outcome, a medical researcher (Kendrick) emerges as the only dissenting voice against the clinical logic of both her commander (Collette) and the ship’s biologist (Kim).”

“I had never really read anything like it,” Collette tells EW. “It is contained and the characters are confined but the questions posed, moral and otherwise, are vast and wide open.”

“These incredible people basically sit on a bomb and allow themselves to be flung into the unknown in the name of science and exploration,” Collette added. “There are so many points at which the mission can go wrong. It’s fine until it isn’t. Then it becomes a moral dilemma before transmuting into absolute survival. It’s petrifying.”
