PS1-Style Horror in ‘Chasing Static’ Arrives Later This Year For PC, Consoles; Demo Available Now on Steam

Who doesn’t love PS1-styled horror games? Publisher Ratalaika Games and developer Headware Games sure love them with their upcoming title in Chasing Static. According to a new press release, the title will be heading to PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch in Q3 2021.

The title is inspired by 80s sci-fi horror and “contemporary surrealist cinema” (aka the good stuff), and take place in the small town of Hearth in North Wales. During a raging storm, protagonist Chris Selwood seeks refuge in a remote roadside café.

Unfortunately for Chris, he finds the café waitress pinned to the ceiling by some creature, which has him passing out and waking up shortly thereafter to the dusty old abandoned remains of the café. What follows is Chris exploring the remains of a mysterious facility, and trying to piece together what happened to the missing villagers of Hearth.

Chasing Static is described as having non-linear gameplay, using “audio driven gameplay mechanics” that have you hunting anomalies with an experimental Frequency Displacement Monitoring Device. This ia all wrapped up in the “crunchy low poly visuals” that harken back to the days of the PS1.

Chasing Static has a demo available right now on Steam, so you can get a taste of what’s to come later this year.
