“Return to Rapture” Brings ‘BioShock’ Into ‘Half-Life: Alyx’ in 8-Part Mod

What do you get when you mix BioShock with Half-Life: Alyx (besides awesome)? Wim Buytaert decided to find out with his new mod for Half-Life: Alyx entitled “Return to Rapture“, which is now available on the Steam Workshop in an eight-part epic.

The mod returns to the underwater dystopia of Rapture, which sees Alyx herself beached outside the entrance to Rapture. From there, the mod is essentially BioShock in VR. In lieu of using EVE, you’ll be able to use Vortigaunt energy to power your “plasmids”.

One of the more impressive aspects of the mod is the fact that Wim was able to import over 200 assets from BioShock into the mod (with 2K’s permission, no less), as well as the fact that the mod has audio diaries that mimic the diaries from BioShock. The modder went the extra mile and even got an Atlas soundalike to guide Alyx through Rapture.

Half-Life: Alyx is currently available on Steam for Valve Index, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest with PC and link cable, and Windows Mixed Reality devices.

Props to UploadVR for finding this one. Check out their 15 minute gameplay video below, but beware of spoilers.
