The artwork you see above comes courtesy of Alex Panagopoulos, depicting a teddy bear who protects his young owner from monsters at night. It’s merely a single image but it suggests an entire story that’s ripe for big screen adaptation, and indeed Netflix and producer Dwayne Johnson have seen that potential in the art. And so, they’re turning it into a movie.
THR reports that Netflix and Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions are developing the “family adventure feature” adaptation of the art, titled Teddy and the Guardians of the Night.
Luke Passmore (Archenemy) wrote the original draft of the script, and THR notes that Josh Stolberg and Bobby Florsheim have now been brought in to write a new screenplay.
Josh Stolberg is a name horror fans should be familiar with, as Stolberg wrote films including Sorority Row, Piranha 3D, and the upcoming Spiral: From the Book of Saw.
“At Seven Bucks, we’re always on the hunt for content that can help inspire our next big story,” Seven Bucks’s Dany Garcia said in a statement. “From the moment I saw Alex’s incredible drawing, I knew there was something special there that our global audiences could respond to. We’re excited to add to our growing slate with Netflix and share this story with the world.”
