Christopher Pike‘s 1994 novel The Midnight Club is becoming a Netflix series, with Mike Flanagan (“Haunting of Hill House,” Doctor Sleep) as co-creator. Flanagan is adapting the book (and other Pike stories) alongside Leah Fong (“Once Upon a Time”), and Flanagan will also executive produce with Intrepid Pictures’ Trevor Macy. Today brings more casting news.
Deadline reports that the cast for “The Midnight Club” includes William B. Davis, who genre fans will of course remember as “The Cigarette Smoking Man” from “The X-Files.”
Iman Benson (Alexa & Katie), Larsen Thompson (Boléro), Crystal Balint (The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco) and Patricia Drake (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) have also joined.
In Flanagan’s own words, the cast for “The Midnight Club” also includes…
- “Portraying the titular club of terminally ill young adults is an amazing group of young actors. The Midnight Club is made up of Adia, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, William Chris Sumpter, Aya Furukawa, Annarah Shephard and Sauriyan Sapkota.”
- “I’m thrilled to welcome back some familiar faces as Zach Gilford, Samantha Sloyan, and Matt Biedel join the cast in supporting roles. (Some other familiar faces from previous Intrepid projects to pop up as guest stars along the way.)”
- “Anchoring the show as the enigmatic doctor who runs this hospice for young adults, I’m honored to welcome Heather Langenkamp. To horror fans like myself, Heather is royalty, and I am so excited to work with her.”
The book “takes place at Rotterdam Home, a hospice for terminally ill teenagers. A group of patients begin to gather together at midnight to share scary stories. They eventually make a pact that whichever of them dies first will contact the others from beyond the grave.”
Leah Fong will executive produce as well, along with Julia Bicknell. Attached writers at this time include Elan Gale, James Flanagan, and Chinaka Hodge.
