Lost Prototype of Cancelled Dreamcast Game ‘Castlevania: Resurrection’ Discovered

While it’s not a “new” Konami game, a fansite has happened upon the long lost prototype of the cancelled Dreamcast game Castlevania: Resurrection! French fansite Sega Dreamcast Info Preservation Games was initially sent a photo of the prototype’s disc. From there, the person in possession of the prototype sent over footage of the game, which was last seen back at E3 1999.

The prototype is listed as being a pre-E3 demo, which contains five environments, and a boss fight. Most areas do not connect with each other, but are accessible from the start menu.

Castlevania: Resurrection was to be continuing the now non-canon story of Sonia Belmont, who was first introduced back on the Game Boy in Castlevania: Legends. Resurrection would take place in 1666, with Sonia meeting up with a brand-new character in Victor Belmont, who was trying to escape his destiny as a vampire hunter. The duo was reportedly to face off against a female vampire antagonist in the game, and not Dracula.

Unfortunately, Resurrection was cancelled in 2000. According to the game’s art director, Greg Orduyan, Resurrection was canned due to disagreements between the Japanese and American teams, and most notably, Sega abandoning the Dreamcast.
