Rumour: ‘Resident Evil’ Series Moving Away From Numbered Entries, Will Focus on Self-Contained Stories

Once again, we’ve got another rumour related to the Resident Evil series from noted leaker Dusk Golem. This time, rather than focusing on the upcoming Resident Evil Village, the rumour concerns future entries in the franchise.

According to Dusk Golem via Twitter, after Village and Resident Evil 9 (because come on, you know it’ll happen), Capcom will begin moving away from numbered entries. Instead, the series will shift towards self-contained stories.

Dusk Golem also claims that due to their proximity in terms of their development, Resident Evil 7, 8 and 9 will share a closely-connected story, with some unexplained elements in RE7 being explained in Village, for example. None of this has been verified by Capcom (obviously), who had to deal with a rather severe leak last year with regards to its upcoming titles.

And yes, if you’re wondering, Dusk Golem has been right in the past regarding rumours surrounding Resident Evil Village, so there is precedent. But until Capcom says anything (or another unfortunate leak happens), keep your salt handy.

Resident Evil Village drops on May 7 for Google Stadia, PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series.
