‘Slumber Party Massacre’ Remake Coming to SYFY This Year from ‘The Banana Splits Movie’ Director!

A remake of director Amy Holden Jones’s 1982 slasher movie Slumber Party Massacre is on the way, with Deadline reporting that the project has been set up over at SYFY.

Danishka Esterhazy (The Banana Splits Movie, Vagrant Queen) is directing for Shout! Studios, with the script being written by Suzanne Keilly (“Ash vs. Evil Dead”).

The cast includes Hannah Gonera, Frances Sholto-Douglas, Mila Rayne, Alex McGregor and Reze-Tiana Wessels, and the new take on the classic film is expected later this year.

“The film’s plot is under wraps but is said to be a reimagining of the original,” Deadline notes.

In the original movie, produced by Roger Corman…

“A female high school student’s slumber party turns into a bloodbath, as a newly escaped psychotic serial killer wielding a power drill prowls her neighborhood.”

“Remaking one of the seminal films of Roger Corman and Amy Holden Jones’ early work is exciting and audacious. But there are no better hands in which to place this challenge to Danishka Esterhazy, Suzanne Keilly, and the team at Blue Ice Pictures. Their creative vision will both honor the Corman ethos and captivate today’s audiences,” said Brent Haynes, Shout’s Head of Original Content Development.

The 1982 version of Slumber Party Massacre, written by Rita Mae Brown, ended up spawning two sequels: Slumber Party Massacre II (1987) and Slumber Party Massacre III (1990).
