Watch Rare Promotional Videos from VHS Screeners of ‘Freddy’s Dead’ and ‘Jason Goes to Hell’! [Video]

I don’t know what it is about VHS but I love it. I obviously connect with the nostalgic aspect of the format and how impossibly hard it was to obtain movies way back when, but the look and feel of VHS has a weirdly cinematic quality to it hiding under all that grotesque grit and grime.

@ManInTheBoxXIII shares the same passion and has been collecting for years, but takes things a step further by bringing rarities online. In chatting over the weekend, Sean shared with me two extremely rare promotional videos that you’re going to absolutely gush over. (It’s worth noting that these videos exist on YouTube, but the quality is terrible with horrendous sounds.)

What we have here are promotional videos for both Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare and Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday that were included on retail VHS screeners of the films. Essentially, they’re “hype” promos that were used to get video stores to order more copies of each film. They boast box office numbers and records (Jason Goes to Hell surpassed Hellraiser 3, Army of Darkness, The Dark Half, and Children of the Corn II, lol), use hilariously cheesy puns, include quotes from critics like Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Norman Bates, and cut together some of the best scenes from the films. These weren’t meant for public consumption so enjoy.

I would do just about anything for the 5-foot-tall Freddy’s Dead retail standee…
