Game Director And Card System Explored in New ‘Back 4 Blood’ Video

Turtle Rock Studios popped up from their work on the upcoming co-op zombie shooter Back 4 Blood to give a little more info on one of the game’s new mechanics in the Card System. In addition, the new video also delves into the title’s ‘Game Director’ AI system.

Left 4 Dead veterans already know about the Game Director system, which depending on how you were faring, would tweak the game’s settings as you played to offer more (or less) of a challenge. The system is back again with Back 4 Blood, but will also now use a card system at the beginning of each level to add more modifiers into the game. Examples of some of the things you’ll encounter include putting you in buildings that are devoid of light, or giving your zombie foes a few extra mutations.

It’s not all one-sided, as you’ll have your own cards to play at the start of a level that can provide a variety of buffs, such as the typical health and stamina increases, but also cards for example that reward you with health for dispatching zombies in a particular way. It’s again all meant to add that much more replayability to a game that’s already proven itself to have that in spades (given that we’re still playing Left 4 Dead 2 a decade later).

Back 4 Blood lumbers onto Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 12.
