IFC Midnight Will Release Tribeca Horror ‘We Need To Do Something’ This September

IFC Midnight has picked up the indie We Need to Do Something ahead of its Tribeca premiere and will release it in limited theaters and on PVOD this coming September 3rd, reports Deadline of the film from the Executive Producers of Saw and Bird Box.

Bloody Disgusting previously scored the first look at the film directed by Sean King O’Grady and starring Sierra McCormick (The Vast of Night), Vinessa Shaw (Hocus Pocus, Eyes Wide Shut, The Hills Have Eyes), Pat Healy (Cheap Thrills, Compliance, The Innkeepers), newcomer Lisette Alexis, and John James Cronin (“NOS4A2”).

In the film, “After Melissa (McCormick) and her family (Shaw, Healy, Cronin) seek shelter from a storm, they become trapped. With no sign of rescue, hours turn to days and Melissa comes to realize that she and her girlfriend Amy (Alexis) might have something to do with the horrors that threaten to tear her family – and the entire world, apart.”

Principal photography took place almost entirely on Atlas’ soundstage in Detroit during September and October, following a week of rehearsals with the entire cast, explained the previous press release. The challenges of filming during a pandemic were met with rigorous protocols by a small tight-knit cast and crew, who dedicated a month of their lives to create the bubble that enabled the film to be completed safely without any artistic compromise.

The film was written by Max Booth III, adapted from his novella of the same title, whose new novel Touch the Night was recently published by Cemetery Dance.

“Without directly addressing the nightmare we are currently living through, Max created a hellish allegory that still manages to capture the collective trauma we’re all experiencing,” said O’Grady.
