“Lisey’s Story”: Stephen King Explains Why He Wanted to Adapt His Own Novel This Time [Video]

“It’s a very scary story… in a lot of ways.”

Stephen King‘s Lisey’s Story is coming to Apple TV+ next week, a small screen adaptation of King’s 2006 novel. Unlike other Stephen King adaptations, this one was personally written by King himself, and the master of horror explains why in a new featurette video today.

“Featuring both clips from the series and interviews with Stephen himself, J.J. Abrams, Julianne Moore, Clive Owen, and Pablo Larrain, this video explores the process Stephen underwent to adapt his own best-selling work for the first time and bring “Lisey’s Story” to life. He chats about how this is his most personal work, drawn from the unique bond he has with his own wife, and why it was important to take the reigns on this project,” the description explains.

Starring Academy Award-winner Julianne Moore and Academy Award-nominee Clive Owen, the eight-episode Apple Original series will premiere globally on Friday, June 4, 2021, with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday.

“Lisey’s Story” is a deeply personal, pensive thriller that follows Lisey Landon (played by Moore) two years after the death of her husband, famous novelist Scott Landon (played by Owen). A series of unsettling events causes Lisey to face memories of her marriage to Scott that she has deliberately blocked out of her mind.

Directed by Pablo Larraín, “Lisey’s Story” hails from J. J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Every episode of the series was personally written by Stephen King.
