Accompanied by two singles, Fear Factory is finally set to release their first album in five years, Aggression Continuum, which will arrive June 18th via Nuclear Blast just in time for the band’s 30th anniversary.
In a fresh video interview with Metal Injection, co-founder and guitarist Dino Cazares not only gets honest about “the turbulent nature of the band, issues with previous band members, the behind the scenes issues that held up the upcoming new album and what went into creating it,” but also reveals that the band’s entire sound derived from a single riff in Metallica‘s iconic “One” off their 1988 masterwork …And Justice for All.
“Early on in our career, when I first heard Metallica do the midsection of ‘One’, I was like, ‘Damn, why can’t they do that more? Why aren’t there more bands doing that?’ So I’m like, ‘Okay. When I do Fear Factory, I’m gonna like, do that,” said Cazares. “That’s kind of what I based the whole musical style [on] – just like, stop, start, kick-drums syncopated with the guitar riff. So that was the first stuff we started writing.”
