More Concept Art from Neill Blomkamp’s Unmade ‘Aliens’ Sequel Teases the Ellen Ripley Return That Could’ve Been

While we wait for Neill Blomkamp‘s new movie Demonic, one project the horror community will probably never stop talking about is Blomkamp’s direct sequel to James Cameron’s Aliens, a project that was once on the table but was taken off that very same table a long, long time ago. It’s still not happening, but AvP Galaxy has unearthed some more concept art.

What we know of Blomkamp’s vision is that it would’ve brought Sigourney Weaver back as Ellen Ripley alongside Michael Biehn as Corporal Hicks, with previously unearthed concept art showing everything from Ripley and Hicks working together to Ripley wearing some kind of Xenomorph disguise. Apparently, there was even going to be a four-armed Xenomorph.

Newt, who was unceremoniously killed off between the events of Aliens and Alien 3, was also set to return in Blomkamp’s once-planned movie, at one point titled Alien: Red Harvest. The plan was to retcon all the films in the franchise beyond Aliens, but of course 20th Century Fox ultimately decided to give the franchise back to original director Ridley Scott instead.

This latest batch of concept art comes courtesy of artist Geoffroy Thoorens, and you can check it out over on AvP Galaxy. Weaver’s Ripley is prominently featured in two of the pieces, along with what looks to be a new android character as well as some Xeno-slaying mercs. Alas, unless something changes, it’s looking like early concept art is all we’ll ever see of this one.

On that note, find all of Thoorens’s “Alien 5” concept art on his ArtStation page.
