Last week, it was reported that Bloober Team had received grants for three projects, one of which turned out to be Layers of Fear 2, fueling speculation in some circles that Bloober Team’s recent strategic partnership deal with Konami might have one of these turn into a new Silent Hill game. In a new interview with IGN, Bloober Team CMO Tomasz Gawlikowski set the record straight, shooting down speculation (and hope) that Bloober Team was working on the storied franchise’s return.
As mentioned, the first grant was for a project known as “H2O”, which had been proven to have been 2019’s Layers of Fear 2. The second grant was for a project known as “Dum Spiro“, which was a WWII-theme horror title. Unfortunately, Gawlikowski confirmed that after several attempts at creating a game that was “appropriately sensitive to the topic and commercially viable at the same time”, Dun Spiro is no longer in active development.
Lastly, “Black” was a medieval-themed first-person title that likewise has been given the axe. However, Gawlikowski did state that a new project under the same codename is still under development, saying that “it’s now a much different project than what you could read on the web in the past few days”.
As for just what Bloober Team is working on right now, Gawlikowski can’t say. However, he did say that “multiple large projects” are in the works. “At Bloober Team we have two active internal projects, one in the production phase and one in the pre-production phase. Both are going to be bigger in scope than The Medium, however, neither of them is based on themes or premises that have been circulating online in the last days.”
The plot thickens as to what exactly the road back to Silent Hill looks like, but for now, Bloober Team isn’t part of it.
