Just one week after HBO announced that “Lovecraft Country” won’t be returning for a second season, Misha Green’s series has just been nominated for several big time Emmy Awards.
Announced this morning, HBO’s “Lovecraft Country” is nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, for starters, with Jonathan Majors scoring a nomination for Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Jurnee Smollett nominated for Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Additionally, Michael K. Williams has been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, with Aunjanue Ellis nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
In total, “Lovecraft Country” has received 18 nominations this year.
Alas, a second season of “Lovecraft Country” is not in the cards. As Green revealed last week, Season 2 would’ve taken us to a new America… with flesh-eating zombies roaming free.
The violent superhero series “The Boys” is also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, with this morning’s presentation hilariously spotlighting season two’s gruesome whale explosion.

The 73rd annual Emmy Awards will air Sunday, September 19 on CBS.
