A new Predator film is on the way from 20th Century Studios and Collider learned today that filming is nearly completed on the prequel that’s currently titled Skull.
The site connected with Jungle Cruise producers John Davis and John Fox who confirmed the film’s title, Skull, while also revealing that Dan Trachtenberg‘s upcoming Predator movie will be “an origin story about the Predator’s first journey to this planet.”
In the film, Amber Midthunder (“Legion”) stars as a Comanche woman who goes against gender norms and traditions to become a warrior.
The plan was for Skull to emulate what was so great about the first Predator, only with a strong female hero.
“It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work,” Davis explained. “It’s the ingenuity of a human being who won’t give up, who’s able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force.”
Predator was a true underdog story with Arnold Schwarzenegger having to outsmart a superior technologically advanced being. This time, Midthunder gets to best the alien hunter.
As for tone, Davis reveals that “[Skull] has more akin to The Revenant than it does any film in the Predator canon,” further adding: “You’ll know what I mean once you see it.”
“I think this is a worthy complement to the first one,” he adds. “It’s going to be as good.”
Skull is rumored to be heading straight to Hulu, similar to that of the forthcoming Hellraiser reimagining.
