Arkane’s Sci-Fi Horror Game ‘Prey’ is an Immersive World of Mimics, Misdirection, and Monstrous Aliens [Safe Room Podcast]

Countless games claim to emphasize player choice, but how many actually deliver on that promise?

Often player choice amounts to little more than black and white morality decisions or variations on stealth or “loud” approaches to combat. And while there are surely outliers, a more traditional approach to immersive sims seems to be a rarity these days.

That is, until Arkane Studios Prey.

Four years after its release, Prey remains a sci-fi horror love letter to the likes of System Shock and Deus Ex, priding itself on its marriage of emergent gameplay and intelligent architectural design.

And for this week’s episode of Safe Room, Neil and Jay are once again joined by game designer and Bloody Disgusting contributor Aaron Boehm to unpack Prey’s unparalleled approach to emergent gameplay.

A new episode of Safe Room is released every Monday and is available on all major platforms. Feel free to browse our LinkTree for a complete list of services: linktr.ee/SafeRoomPodcast
