They Made Another ‘Ringu’ Sequel: ‘Sadako DX’!

Hideo Nakata‘s chilling 1998 classic Ringu not only gave birth to J-horror but also the iconic Sadako, the horrifying long-haired ghost that crawled out of a television set after cursing a VHS tape. It kickstarted the remake craze here in the States and has inspired tons of horror films, including our very own V/H/S franchise. It also has so many sequels that I’ve lost count.

The last time Sadako haunted Japanese theaters was in 2019, but she’s back again in this year’s Sadako DX, which stars Fūka Koshiba as Fuka Ichijo, a college student with 200 IQ who tries to unravel the curse of Sadako, writes ANN Via Mantan-Web.

Hisashi Kimura directed the film that’s currently in post-production. Yūya Takahashi (Lupin the IIIrd: Fujiko Mine’s Lie, Kamen Rider Ex-Aid) wrote the script.

Ringu was remade here in the U.S. and spawned two sequels, the most recent of which would torpedo the production on the last planned Friday the 13th reboot back in 2017. The Japanese franchise now has eight films, a television movie and series, not to mention the Freddy vs. Jason-styled reboot Sadako vs. Kayako. All in all, there are a whopping 14 films, including Sadako DX.

In fact, Sadako will even appear in the video game Dead by Daylight next month!

Watch for more on Sadako DX as it comes in.
