Originally released for the PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam, publisher PQube and SONNORI’s Korean Survival Horror game White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is getting a PlayStation 5 upgrade this Fall. Per Gematsu, a listing on Target’s website shows that White Day will be getting a physical release for the PlayStation 5 on September 30.
Priced at $39.99 USD, the release will include the over 30 different costumes that were originally released as DLC.
If you’ve not heard of White Day: A Labyrinth Named School before, the game is a rebuilt and localized version of the 2001 original, which was considered by fans to be “one of the scariest games ever made”. The game centres on Hee-Min Lee, who on the eve of the gift-giving holiday White Day (the Asian equivalent of Valentine’s Day), sneaks into school to hide a box of candies for a girl he fancies. Unfortunately for him, the school shutters slam shut, and Lee finds himself trapped in the building overnight. That wouldn’t be so bad if he wasn’t now being hunted by a killer janitor and haunted by the troubled souls of the dead.
In classic Survival Horror fashion, White Day: A Labyrinth Named School sees you trying to remain hidden while solving puzzles. You have a “resource-based save system”, along with having no weapons of any kind to defend yourself. All the while, you’ve got to uncover the dark secrets of the building’s past to survive, along with trying to keep safe your fellow students trapped with you in the school. White Day also features a branching narrative and multiple endings.
If all that’s not enough, PQube has been working on a sequel to the game entitled White Day 2: The Flower That Tells Lies. In fact, PQube recently teased an announcement on May 31 regarding the sequel, so stay tuned.
