David Cronenberg’s ‘Crimes of the Future’ Now Available on Digital!

Surprise, David Cronenberg‘s new movie Crimes of the Future has just hit Digital outlets this morning, offered as a Premium VOD option to rent for $19.99 or buy for $24.99.

Crimes of the Future was released exclusively in theaters on June 3, thus far making $3.1 million worldwide. You can watch the film at home via Amazon (and other platforms) now!

Meagan wrote in her review for BD, “Crimes of the Future isn’t so interested in plot but rather in pondering over philosophical questions. The worldbuilding is sparse and vague by design, and the pacing is a dreamy lull. Cronenberg returns to body horror with ease but never cuts as deep with his meditations as his characters would. Even while anemic, Cronenberg continues to test the limits of human flesh like no other. His distinct vision, oddball characters, and soft-spoken yet dry sense of humor make this a welcome and deeply engrossing return to form.”

In the film, “As the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the body undergoes new transformations and mutations. With his partner, Caprice (Léa Seydoux), Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen), a celebrity performance artist, publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances.

“Timlin (Kristen Stewart), an investigator from the National Organ Registry, obsessively tracks their movements, which is when a mysterious group is revealed… Their mission – to use Saul’s notoriety to shed light on the next phase of human evolution.”

Crimes of the Future is a meditation on human evolution… the ways in which we have had to take control of the process because we have created such powerful environments that did not exist previously,” said Cronenberg. “[It’s] an evolution of things I have done before. Fans will see key references to other scenes and moments from my other films. That’s a continuity of my understanding of technology as connected to the human body. Technology is always an extension of the human body, even when it seems to be very mechanical and non-human.”

The film’s cast also includes Scott Speedman, Welket Bungué, Don McKellarLihi KornowskiTanaya Beatty, Nadia Litz, Yorgos Karamichos, and Yorgos Pirpassopoulos.
