‘Ghostbusters’ Animated Film and Fifth Live Action Movie Confirmed by Jason Reitman

The annual “Ghostbusters Day” kicked off today with the news that a brand new animated series is being developed for Netflix, and as promised, more announcements have been made.

During a special “Ghostbusters Day” event tonight, Ghostbusters: Afterlife duo Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan announced that an animated FEATURE FILM is also in the works!

Jennifer Kluska and Chris Prynoski are directing the animated movie, written by Brenda Hsueh. It will be an all-new take on the franchise, featuring all-new characters.

“This was a passion project of my father’s and it’s easy to understand why. The world of the unknown can only be properly explored through the limitless reach of animation,” Reitman said.

Additionally, a fifth live action feature film was confirmed by Reitman during the “Ghostbusters Day” event, which will be set in Manhattan. The film’s code name is “Firehouse.”

The upcoming movie is said to be the “next chapter in the Spenger family story.”

Reitman also announced that Dark Horse will be telling a “unique story” with a limited edition Ghostbusters comic series next year, in-canon and part of the original movie’s continuity.
