Sega thought the first time was so nice that they’re doing it twice with a second Sega Mega Drive Mini. The unit has only been announced for a Japan release so far, but fans across the pond should be able to import it once it launches on October 27 in Japan for 9,980 yen. Currently, 22 titles for the unit have been announced (out of over 50 titles in total), which includes a mix of Mega Drive and Mega CD titles.
Among the announced titles so far for the Mega Drive Mini II, horror fans will be pleased to see that Namco’s Splatterhouse 2 is in the mix, along with System Sacom’s Mega CD title, Mansion of Lost Souls.
Splatterhouse 2 needs little introduction for fans of the original, where Rick dons the Terror Mask once again to save his girlfriend Jennifer. Mansion of Lost Souls, however, is less known.
Released in Japan and in the US in 1993, the game plays similar to early horror titles like D, and follows two siblings, Samantha and Johnathan. The siblings come across a butterfly while exploring a grassy field, to which they chase after it. The butterfly leads them into a mansion, where they become trapped. As Johnathan, the player must explore the mansion, overcome several puzzles, and escape with his sister before they’re turned into butterflies themselves. Throughout the game, players will encounter ghosts of people who appear in the form of butterflies.
The announced titles so far for the Mega Drive Mini II are as follows:
- Cartridge Titles
- Bonanza Bros.
- Fantasy Zone
- Magical Taruruuto-kun
- Shining in the Darkness
- Thunder Force IV (Lightening Force: Quest for the Darkstar)
- Virtua Racing

- Megapanel
- Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water
- Out Run
- Puzzle & Action: Ichidant-R

- Mega CD Titles

The remaining Mega Drive Mini II titles will be revealed over the course of three other streams, with the first in mid-July, followed two in August. Keep in mind that if Sega does announce North American and European versions of the console, the lineup of games will be different. With the previous unit containing a handful of genre favourites, what titles would you like to see appear?
