‘The Black Phone’ Clips – Ethan Hawke’s “The Grabber” Showcases His Masks

The next big horror movie to arrive in theaters here in 2022 is Scott Derrickson‘s (Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Doctor StrangeThe Black Phone, which is headed to theaters on June 24.

An adaptation of Joe Hill‘s short story, the film features four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke in the most terrifying role as “The Grabber”, who is kidnapping kids in a small town.

Bloody Disgusting has three clips from the film, two of which showcase The Grabber’s masks, put on display by an agitated Hawke. His vocal shifts are extremely interesting and something I’m not sure I’ve seen before.

In The Black Phone

“Finney Shaw (Mason Thames), a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.”

The film’s screenplay is by Derrickson & C. Robert Cargill (Doctor Strange, Sinister franchise), based on the award-winning short story by Joe Hill from his New York Times bestseller “20th Century Ghosts”.
