Yoshimi Yasuda Addresses Fan Concerns Regarding ‘Lollipop Chainsaw’ Remake

With the remake of Lollipop Chainsaw announcement last week, fans are obviously excited to get a second chance to play the cult favourite. There’s also a bit of a concern. After all, neither James Gunn nor Suda51 are involved, and neither is Tara Strong, who voiced protagonist Juliet Starling. Then there’s also the potential for the game to be altered from its original state. In response, project producer and Dragami Games president Yoshimi Yasuda posted another message to Twitter to allay any concerns regarding the Lollipop Chainsaw remake.

Yasuda begins by reiterating that the goal of the project is to is to make it so that players who wish to play the game “can do so easily”, and not to make a new Lollipop Chainsaw game. Yasuda again laments that due to licensing issues, the game’s soundtrack will need to be modified. However, Dragami are “aiming for a remake that is as close as possible to a remaster” in regards to finding songs that will approximate the original feel.

Regarding any potential story changes, Yasuda and the team feel that the story is “a huge part of what fans love” about Lollipop Chainsaw. As a result, the story won’t be altered, nor will the “aesthetics of the game” be changed.

According to Yasuda, there was apparently some confusion in his previous message to fans regarding the “more realistic look” comment in his previous message. This was in reference to how Dragami will be taking advantage of modern game console hardware. “We do not wish to change Juliet’s design, and the assumption that we want to is baseless. We were the ones who created Juliet’s model data after great trial and error 10 years ago, and feel attached to her more than anyone else.”

And then there’s the worry of censorship. Yasuda states that while they haven’t discussed the issue with Sony or Microsoft, Dragami again intends to make it so that the game can be “as close to the original version as possible.”

The tentatively-titled Lollipop Chainsaw Remake is slated for a 2023 release.
