While it’s not quite the TV from Videodrome, Nicholas Lives’ upcoming experimental horror game Night Signal looks to be just as bizarre and horrifying. The game is currently slated to release on Steam on November 7, and is intended to be a short-but-sweet affair.
Taking inspiration from The Twilight Zone and Inscape’s forgotten 1995 horror game The Dark Eye, Night Signal‘s premise is a simple one: you’re breaking in a new television set. That involves tweaking the antenna to pick up a signal. Anachronisms aside, you quickly come to find out that your new TV seems to pick up strange signals after midnight. From there, it only gets weirder, as someone’s slipped a TV Guide under your door to help you “track your sightings”.
Furthering the experimental angle, Night Signal features a mix of clay, photography, and illustration for its visuals. If you’ve played The Dark Eye, you’ll know what to expect. The game also features an original soundtrack by We Need To Go Deeper composer David Johnsen, who has created a mix of sounds akin to 60’s sci fi and Silent Hill.
