‘Halloween Ends’ – Final Movie in the Trilogy Slashes into Nearly $60 Million Worldwide Opening

Billed as the final film in David Gordon Green‘s sequel trilogy, Halloween Ends surely won’t be the last movie in the franchise but it’s likely to be the final time Jamie Lee Curtis returns to do battle with Michael Myers. Not surprisingly, it’s a promise that put asses in the seats over the weekend, with Halloween Ends scaring up $58.4 million worldwide thus far.

Domestically, Halloween Ends made $41.2 million in its opening weekend across 3,901 theaters. That puts Halloween Ends in the #1 spot on the domestic charts this week, and the film is likely to rocket past $100 million worldwide in these next two weeks before Halloween.

For the sake of comparison, Halloween had a domestic opening of $76 million back in 2018, while Halloween Kills opened to $49 million here in the United States just last year.

Diminishing returns? Well, not entirely. Both Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends were released onto Peacock the same day as theaters, which no doubt cut into box office profits. It’s clear that audiences are still hungry to head back to Haddonfield, so we expect it won’t be long before Michael Myers comes back home… in another brand new timeline, perhaps?

You can read Meagan’s spoiler-free Halloween Ends review right here.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for Halloween Ends: “Four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie, after allowing the specter of Michael to determine and drive her reality for decades, has decided to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all.”

Nick Castle, the original Michael Myers, had recently noted that Halloween Ends will be a “surprising” conclusion to David Gordon Green‘s trilogy, while makeup effects artist Chris Nelson similarly teased that the third installment in the trilogy is “weird” and “different.” And John Carpenter had also called the new movie a “departure” in a recent interview.

Halloween Ends will also feature the return of Will Patton as Officer Frank Hawkins, Kyle Richards as Lindsey Wallace and James Jude Courtney as The Shape/Michael Myers.

Michael Myers (aka The Shape) in Halloween Ends, co-written, produced and directed by David Gordon Green.
