Independent Spirit Awards – Mia Goth Nominated for Best Lead Performance in ‘Pearl’

One of this year’s standout actors on the genre scene is unquestionably Mia Goth, who essentially pulled triple duty across Ti West’s X and Pearl. Goth played the final girl and the elderly villain in the slasher movie X and then later played the young version of X‘s villain in Pearl, delivering three very different performances that have solidified her as a big time star.

While we wait to see if Goth will be getting any Oscar consideration for her incredible performance in Pearl, let’s not forget that the Oscars aren’t the only game in town…

Announced this morning, Mia Goth has been nominated for Best Lead Performance at the Independent Spirit Awards, recognized for her leading role in Ti West’s prequel Pearl!

The full list of nominees in that category include…

  • Cate Blanchett – “Tar”
  • Dale Dickey – “A Love Song”
  • Mia Goth – “Pearl”
  • Regina Hall – “Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.”
  • Paul Mescal – “Aftersun”
  • Aubrey Plaza – “Emily the Criminal”
  • Jeremy Pope – “The Inspection”
  • Taylor Russell – “Bones and All”
  • Andrea Riseborough – “To Leslie”
  • Michelle Yeoh – “Everything Everywhere All at Once”

On the genre front, Luca Guadagnino’s cannibal movie Bones and All was nominated for Best Feature, while Halina Reijn was nominated for Best Director for Bodies Bodies Bodies.

You can see the full list of nominees over on Variety.

Independent Spirit Awards winners will be chosen by members of Film Independent and will be announced on March 4, 2023. Television nominees will be announced on December 13.
