Summon Spikes to Impale Your Foes in Throwback Arena Shooter ‘Impaler’, Arriving December 6

If you’re looking for a bit of a break from the standard throwback shooter formula from the recent crop of titles, Apptivus and publisher Retrovibe’s upcoming 90s-inspired arena shooter Impaler might be just what you need. And hey, you won’t have to wait very long for the game to release.

Featured earlier this year during Realms Deep, Apptivus’ Impaler arrives on Steam on December 6 for a measly $2.99 USD. The game switches things up from your usual FPS by granting you the ability to summon spikes to impale your foes, build barriers, or use them to reach higher ground. The story is, well, you’re in an arena facing off against hordes of demons and other monsters. There are rogue-like elements to ensure that each run is different each time.

Touted as “easy to play, difficult to master”, Impaler rewards constant movement, and allows you to upgrade your weapons & abilities to keep pace with the increasing challenge. And as is the standard for these throwback shooter, Impaler sports a retro art pixel art style, coupled with a great soundtrack, and a custom engine “for extra smooth frame rates.”

Best of all, you can try Impaler before you buy. There’s currently a demo available on Steam.
