90s Throwback Arena Shooter ‘Impaler’ Out Today on Steam [Trailer]

Right on time, Apptivus’ throwback arena shooter Impaler is out today in Steam Early Access for a cool $2.99 USD (thanks to the 10% discount that’s on until December 13). To celebrate this 90s-inspired shooter, we also have the customary launch trailer.

In Impaler, on top of using an arsenal of first-person shooter staples (which includes bunny hopping, strafes, and rocket jumps), players summon spikes to slay demons, build barriers, and reach higher ground. According to the press release, the game was designed for “quick, fun sessions”. And for you Steam Deck users, the game has been optimized to play on the go.

Along with focusing on players beating their high scores, Imapler sees you unlock new weapons, skills, and upgrades through repeated playthroughs. In fact, there are 40+ unique skills and upgrades to unlock. Topping it all off is a retro synth/metal soundtrack that has that extra layer of crunch that 90s shooters fans will appreciate.

Built from the ground up by solo developer Apptivus, Impaler is described as his “passion project” for the past 212 weekends.

And you won’t have to wait long for extra content, as the limited-time crossover involving Buckshot Software’s Project Warlock will be on right out the gate. The crossover will last until January 5, 2023.
