While some people might tire of the P.T.-inspired games that trickle out from time to time, we’re certainly not. Neither is Digital Cybercherries, who courtesy of IGN, has released a new gameplay trailer for Paranormal Tales, a first-person psychological horror game that echoes Konami’s “what could have been” Silent Hills demo.
Aiming for a 2023 release on Steam, Paranormal Tales takes a few cues from P.T., while also being inspired by found-footage horror. In the game, the Horror Cam archives committee has obtained various video files that detail the moments leading up to a person’s disappearance, with each file functioning as a self-contained experience. In order to find out what happened to the people who recorded them, you play through said “videos”, which include a variety of locations that tell vastly different stories for the player to experience. The sources of these videos include bodycams, smartphones, and of course, VHS tapes.
Despite stressing that the trailer features alpha gameplay footage that doesn’t reflect the final game, the footage looks amazing thanks to the power of Unreal Engine 5. The devs promise that Paranormal Tales will have plenty of jump scares and anxiety-inducing atmosphere, with the potential of spiders.
Obviously, Konami is still with the Silent Hill franchise. They’re currently working away with Bloober Team on the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, which is hopefully coming out later this year.
