Retroware Announces ‘Toxic Crusaders’ Beat-‘Em-Up for a Late 2023 Release [Trailer]

Retroware has announced another blast from the past for Saturday morning cartoon aficionados (and horror fans) with Toxic Crusaders. Yes, the same Toxic Crusaders cartoon that enjoyed a run on SCREAMBOX last year. The game is aiming for a late 2023 release on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series and Xbox One.

The story sees Dr. Killemoff once again causing trouble, and it’s up to Toxie and his team of hideously deformed creatures of superhuman size and strength to stop Dr. Killemoff and his plans for global pollution.

Similar to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge from Retroware last year, Toxic Crusaders will see you as Toxie with up to three other players in an arcade-style beat-’em-up. You’ll be able to choose from seven playable characters, including Toxie, No-Zone, Junkyard, Major Disaster, Headbanger, Toxie’s musically “gifted” girlfriend Yvonne, and the mother of all mothers, Mrs. Junko, Toxie’s mom!

And seeing as it’s Troma, you can expect plenty of cameos from other Troma properties such as Class of Nuke ‘Em High, Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead, and Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D., all of which are rendered in the same cartoon style as the Toxic Crusaders themselves.

Meanwhile, we’re still waiting on that release date announcement for Macon Blair‘s remake of The Toxic Avenger, which stars Elijah WoodJulia DavisTaylour PaigeKevin BaconPeter Dinklage, and Jacob Tremblay.
