A Nightmare on Elm Street – SCREAMBOX

A Nightmare on Elm Street

No tour through Robert Englund’s filmography would be complete without the seminal slasher that spawned seven sequels, a remake, a television series, in-depth documentaries and novels, a ton of merchandise, and massive fan fervor known as “Freddy Mania.” Revisit Englund’s introductory performance as Freddy Krueger, the serial killer that seeks revenge against the parents that murdered him by tormenting their children in their dreams. Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street features Freddy at his most terrifying. It’s now on SCREAMBOX.

Dead & Buried – AMC+, Peacock, Prime Video, Shudder, Tubi, Vudu

Robert Englund Dead & Buried

A sleepy seaside town has a dark secret in this horror movie by director Gary Sherman and Alien screenwriters Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shusett. After a series of gruesome murders committed by large groups of townspeople against tourists, the bodies return to life. As Sheriff Dan Gillis (James Farentino) races to uncover what’s happening and why, he notices peculiar behavior from those around him, including his wife. Eerie and atmospheric, Dead & Buried bides its time unveiling the skeletons in this town’s closet, but it packs a visceral punch when it does. Look for Robert Englund in a more minor but no less memorable role.

Eaten Alive – AMC+, Night Flight, Peacock, Plex, Shudder, Tubi

Englund Eaten Alive

Tobe Hooper’s follow-up to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre offers another grimy horror, loosely based on the story of Joe Ball, a murderer suspected of feeding the bodies to his alligators. Neville Brand plays the central psychopath who runs a hotel in the swamp, the perfect setting for the horror to get over-the-top and sleazy. Look for Robert Englund to spout a now famous line of dialogue as Buck, one of the hotel’s loathsome patrons.

Galaxy of Terror – freevee, Pluto TV, Shout TV, Peacock, Roku, SCREAMBOX, Tubi, Vudu

Galaxy of Terror

In this Roger Corman-produced sci-fi horror movie, a space crew on a rescue mission faces their worst fears to a terminal degree. That means an eclectic and often schlocky variety of deaths among a cast of notable talent, including Sid Haig, Ray Walston, Grace Zabriskie, and Robert Englund. Expect bizarre creature encounters and death by giant maggots, and cheer on Englund as Ranger, the crew’s resourceful second technical officer.

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer – freevee, Plex, Roku, Tubi, Vudu, YouTube

Robert Englund in Jack Brooks Monster Slayer

Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer doesn’t take itself seriously; it’s a fun ode to splattery VHS creature features from the ‘80s. Ever since Jack Brooks (Trevor Matthews) witnessed his family being murdered by a monster on a camping trip, he’s had a bit of a short temper. That temper has caused many psychiatrists to flee in fear, but it becomes his biggest asset when Professor Crowley (Robert Englund) devours a body part he unearthed and becomes a monster. Brooks is a reluctant hero, but his anger issues are just the thing to save the night class from the hungry creature. As always, Robert Englund threatens to steal the show at every turn.
