Cinephobia Releasing brings Dane Elcar‘s acclaimed sci-fi thriller Brightwood home today, a time loop horror movie that’s now available on all your favorite VOD outlets.
The indie horror movie centers on a married couple at the end of their rope, and that’s before they get trapped into a loop with a hooded killer in the woods.
In Brightwood, “Jen and Dan’s marriage is on the rocks with Jen seriously thinking about ending it for good. But when the pair go on a jog around a local pond in an attempt to hash things out, they find themselves running in circles as the exit trail vanishes and they repeatedly return to the same spot.
“Being stuck together in an endless loop would be bad enough, but when a silent hooded killer appears and starts tracking them down, the couple must figure out how to survive — together or apart.”
Written and directed by Dane Elcar, the film stars Dana Berger and Max Woertendyke.
In his recap of this year’s Salem Horror Fest, Alex DiVincenzo said of Brightwood, “Like The Twilight Zone meets Timecrimes with a hint of Blair Witch, the rousing premise is bolstered by character turmoil, although it could have used more answers by the end. With a cast of two entirely outside in daylight, writer-director Dane Elcar makes his feature debut with the clever indie production for the pandemic, based on his 2018 short The Pond.”
SCREAMBOX‘s massive August lineup continues with the mind-bending Australian creature feature Subject, which follows a man ensnared in a sinister government experiment.
Subject is now streaming only on the BD-powered SCREAMBOX! The SCREAMBOX Original hails from award-winning director Tristan Barr (Good Times).
In the film, “On his way to prison, Willem is presented with an intriguing offer: take part in a shadowy government experiment and have his sentence commuted.
“But little does he know his isolation experiment may not be what it seems, casting doubt upon his perceived solitude and raising questions about his true state of aloneness.”
Start screaming now with SCREAMBOX on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Prime Video, Roku, YouTube TV, Samsung, Comcast, Cox, Philo, and Screambox.com.
Death is only the beginning in The Entity. In the Filipino horror film, which is now available on VOD outlets, a family must contend with demonic forces after a tragic death.
In the film, “A family is haunted by what appears to be the ghost of their youngest daughter. Now they must try to figure out why she is trying to communicate with them and if it’s really her.”
The horror film by Filipino director Erik Matti (“Folklore“), who co-wrote the script with Katski Flores, stars Sharon Cuneta as the family matriach. The Entity, also titled Kuwaresma, marks Filipino star Cuneta’s first foray into horror.
John Arcilla (The Bourne Legacy) also stars alongside sibling actors Kent Gonzales (“Gen Z”) and Pam Gonzales.
Now available from Level 33 Entertainment is the horror movie Belle, a brand new reimagining of the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast that just hit VOD outlets today.
In the horror movie spin on the iconic story, written and directed by Max Gold (“Surfer’s Paradise,” “Silicon Beach,” “Classic of Changes”), “Belle would do anything to save her ailing father so she journeys in search of a mythical rose believed to be a cure. As payment for the rose, Belle must surrender herself to a vicious beast and battle his spell.”
Andrea Snædal (“Silicon Beach”), Ingi Hrafn Hilmarsson (The Noise of Engines, “Silicon Beach”), Hana Vagnerová (“Female Factor,” “Beat on Friendship”), Gudmundur Thorvaldsson (Take 5, Eleven Men Out), Helga Braga Jónsdóttir (“Stitch n’ Bitch,” “Women at War”), and Sigurður Sigurjónsson (“The Valhalla Murders,” “Under The Tree”) star.
A group of friends, while on a Christmas vacation to their family cabin in Southern Oregon, learn of a local rumor of an antisocial woman who allegedly murders people and feeds her victims to pigs in Piglady, which was also released onto VOD outlets today.
The film from Gravitas Ventures is loosely inspired by the Susan Monica Murders, and a majority of the film was shot on the property adjacent to where the actual events took place, and where human remains were found eaten by her pigs.
Sandra Dee Tryon, Adam Ray Fair, Karri Davis, Liam Samuel Watkins, Alicia Karami, Lazarus Tate, Jeffery Hunter, and Shyvhan Storm star in Piglady.
It was written and directed by Adam Ray Fair and co-directed by Lyon Mitchell. The screenplay is by Adam Ray Fair and Alex C Johnson, and the film was produced by Alex C Johnson.
