‘Curse of Chucky’ Is the Best Direct-to-Video Horror Sequel to Date [Halloweenies Podcast]

In 2013, nearly 10 years after Seed of Chucky hit theaters, Charles Lee Ray came home. Sort of. He arrived on the doorsteps of not only the Pierce family, but all the fans who had been waiting for years to see their favorite Good Guy in another misadventure. Needless to say, Don Mancini delivered with Curse of Chucky.

Is Curse the greatest direct-to-video sequel of all time? That’s a question for the Halloweenies to answer — and they do. Elsewhere, they also discuss Mancini’s direction, Chucky’s new face, the leading chops of Fiona Dourif, Universal 1440 Entertainment, the glory of Winnipeg, all of those great graphics, and more.

Stream the episode below or subscribe via Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, RadioPublic, Acast, Google Podcasts, and RSS. New to the Halloweenies? Catch up with the gang by revisiting their essential episodes on past franchises such as Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Scream, and The Evil Dead.

You can also become a member of their Patreon, The Rewind, for hilariously irreverent commentaries (e.g. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Gremlins, The Blob), one-off deep dives on your favorite rentals (e.g. Saw, The Conjuring, The Changeling), and even topical spinoffs like their recent Fortune & Glory: An Indiana Jones Podcast.
