Feardemic’s Fear Fest 2023 kicked off last night with a slew of trailers and announcements for new and upcoming titles. Hosted by IGN, the Fear Fest stream included trailers from the established horror game developers, as well as less-known indie ones, complete with developer interviews and gameplay footage. You can check out the interviews, which includes developers working on the likes of Alone in the Dark, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, Still Wakes The Deep, Silent Hill: Ascension and more over on Feardemic’s YouTube page.
Here’s a sampling of some of the trailers revealed during the event:
Days of Doom, Atari and SneakBox’s new take on a turn-based RPG roguelite, was announced to be unleashing mayhem on PC via Steam and consoles on September 21. Mixing RPG and survival simulation elements with intuitive base-building mechanics and turn-based team tactics, Days of Doom sees players battle all manner of unholy monsters that have risen from the pits of the underworld. The supernatural dangers know no bounds, and it’s up to you to build, grow, and maintain a safe haven for what’s left of humanity amidst a treacherous wasteland.
World Makers’ upcoming horror social deduction title Deceit 2 made an appearance ahead of its release on September 14 on consoles and Steam. The new trailer goes over the basics of the game, and what you’ll need to do in order to survive. Your goal: escape the Ritual. But beware, two of your party have been corrupted by evil, hiding amongst you in plain sight, empowering the Ritual in order to sacrifice you to the Game Master’s mysterious Benefactors.
Ziggurat Interactive debuted a new blood-soaked trailer for its upcoming title Slave Zero X, which is set for release in Q1 2024. The game is available to wishlist now on Steam and GOG, and you can play through the demo on Steam and Xbox. From the top of Megacity S1-9, the Sovereign Khan rules with fists of iron and flesh. Horrific, living machines known as Slaves are primed to become the latest tools of war in humanity’s long and bloody history. A secret band of warriors known as The Guardians hope to stop these biomecha from being unleashed upon the world, but one swordsman among their ranks has a different idea: use the enemy’s own weapon against them. By merging with a stolen Slave Unit Prototype, Shou will become a furious Devil in pursuit of killing a false God.
Daedalic Entertainment had double the reveals, unveiling new trailers for their upcoming horror titles REVEIL and Edge of Sanity. Coming later this year, REVEIL is a narrative first-person psycho-thriller game that focuses on story, puzzles, and exploration. Find out what’s going on inside Walter Thompson and what his dark past at the Nelson Bros Circus has to do with it. You can check this one out on Steam.
Meanwhile, Vixa Games’ Edge of Sanity is also coming to Steam, and is a Lovecraftian-themed survival horror game set in the unforgiving wilderness of Alaska during the Cold War. Players will engage in survival and base management mechanics, as well as conducting expeditions. Said expeditions lead you to the discovery of local cultists and monsters hiding around a remote mountain valley.
As an additional surprise, Feardemic themselves announced that Pleasantly Friendly Games’ No Son of Mine, which was shown off earlier this year, is now available on PlayStation, Xbox, the Switch and PC via Steam. No Son of Mine is described as a gripping survival horror title that combines combat, stealth, exploration, puzzle-solving, and a gruesome mystery while avoiding being caught by “him”. Avoid dark areas and hide immediately if the lights go out. Fight if you have to, or if you can.
Day two of Fear Fest continues tonight with the Horror Game Awards, celebrating the best horror games of 2022, and will be broadcast live from the most haunted theater in Krakow.
