Blink 182 musician Tom DeLonge is channeling his passion for UFOs and extraterrestrial activity into a feature film, titled Monsters of California and releasing this October.
Gizmodo shares the official trailer for Monsters of California this morning – you’ll have to hit up Gizmodo to watch it – and they’ve announced an October 6 release date as well.
On that date, the film releases in theaters as well as On Demand platforms at home.
This might surprise you given Tom DeLonge has never directed a feature film before but Monsters of California looks EXCELLENT, and it’s clear from the trailer alone that DeLonge has a serious talent for filmmaking. It looks like he poured absolutely all of himself into this one, even using the classic Blink 182 song “Aliens Exist” to bring nostalgic gravitas to the trailer.
Honestly, as a massive fan of Blink 182 growing up, the song usage sent chills up and down my spine. It’s almost as if this movie right here has been over 20 years in the making.
Watch the trailer over on Gizmodo. And don’t miss Monsters of California on October 6, 2023.
“The film takes my fascination with the unexplained, combines it with the skate culture I grew up a part of, and tosses in my ridiculous sense of humor that millions got to witness during my Blink-182 days,” DeLonge said in a statement shared by Gizmodo today. “In recent years, I’ve had the good fortune of helping the government remember how much they care about UFOs through the work we do at To The Stars, and it’s that experience which helped inspire this movie. I can’t wait for audiences to see the fucked up fun adventure these kids go on.”
Monsters of California is described as a sci-fi adventure film in the classic style of Amblin.
The film “follows teenager Dallas Edwards and his derelict friends on a quest to find the meaning behind a series of mysterious, paranormal events in Southern California.”
Jack Samson (Zodiac), Camille Kostek (Free Guy), Casper Van Dien (Salvage Marines), Richard Kind (The Watcher) and Arianne Zucker (Days of Our Lives) star.
DeLonge wrote the script with Ian Miller and will perform original music for the film.
