“True Detective” Creator Nic Pizzolatto Reveals He’s Written an Occult Horror Movie for Blumhouse

The creator of HBO’s “True Detective,” Nic Pizzolatto teases during a recent panel at the Austin Film Festival that he’s working with Blumhouse on an upcoming horror movie!

Slash Film brings us the quotes out of the Austin Film Festival this week, which reveal that Pizzolatto has written an “occult detective story” for the powerhouse horror studio.

“Blumhouse contracted me to write and direct a horror movie, which I gave them the script for last week,” Pizzolatto explains. “It’s kind of an occult detective story.”

He continues, “But I just took a meeting with them once and we just kind of shot the shit and we had some common friends and we were wrapping up and Couper [Samuelson], the VP of Blumhouse, said, ‘Look, if you ever have an idea for a horror movie  …’ And I go, ‘Actually, I have one idea for a horror movie and I’ve had it for 10 years,’ and I told it to him and he’s like, ‘Let’s go make this.’ I’ve got to see what they think of the script, but hopefully we’ll be doing that.”

Needless to say, an “occult detective story” sounds right up Nic Pizzolatto’s alley, as the masterful first season of “True Detective” can be described in very much the same way.

Stay tuned for more on this one as we learn it.
