You may remember a few years ago when developer Frogwares was in the midst of a messy legal fight with publisher Nacon over the former’s Lovecraftian adventure title, The Sinking City. Frogwares has now announced that they’ve finally settled things, leaving them as “the sole publisher” of The Sinking City on all platforms. Not only that, but the game will be getting a revamp, along with some new DLC.
The developer announced that they will be releasing a “new version of The Sinking City that comes with all the latest bug fixes and optimizations” in short order. However, this new version will come with a caveat. As a result of what’s described as “a number of technical reasons”, your old saves will no longer work with the upcoming version of the game.
Not a huge problem, as The Sinking City will allow you to use the “old” version of the game to continue the save, albeit for a limited time. Frogwares encourages those who are continuing with these old saves to finish their playthroughs before February 28, which is assumed when the old version of the game will cease to be included.
Lastly, the team will also be releasing a new DLC called “Merciful Madness”, which is only compatible with the new version of The Sinking City. Luckily for those who don’t want to replay the game from the start to access the DLC, players will be able to download a set of prepared saves that will take you straight to the start of the new DLC’s quests.
It’s not clear yet if the new DLC is exclusive to the Steam version of the game.
The Sinking City is currently available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and the Nintendo Switch.
