Those of you wanting a game based off of Image Comics and “The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman’s Prime Video series “Invincble” may get your wish. Skybound Entertainment (which Kirkman owns, and has been the source of several games based on The Walking Dead), has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Republic in order to develop a AAA game based on Invincible.
According to the campaign, Skybound is seeking $5 million to develop the first in-house AAA game based on Invincible. The Invincible game will be developed under the direction of a new in-house 30-person studio made up of veterans from EA, Activision Blizzard, and Amazon Games. Skybound has already raised $18 million from investors and fans from a previous campaign for the project.
The new campaign states that the Invincible game will release under a premium model “with multiple DLC expansions and special editions designed to cater to every level of fandom.” The game aims to “contribute new stories to the Invincible multiverse, enabling future releases, expansions, new character arcs and adventures for years to come.”
The campaign page goes on to say that by developing this game in-house, not only will the development be under complete control of stakeholders and Invincible IP creator Robert Kirkman himself, the team project aims to create a “highly coveted game that is guaranteed to have fans of the comic, the global hit TV show, and serious gamers alike.”
This is separate from the recent deal that Skybound struck with Bloober Team to develop a new horror game based on one of Skybound’s properties.
The Invincible campaign so far has raised just over $450K, with the campaign ending on April 29.
