[Exclusive] New ‘Tormented Souls II’ Screenshots Show off the Title’s Haunting Beauty

Caroline Walker is back in PQube and developer Dual Effect’s upcoming sequel to 2021’s Tormented Souls with Tormented Souls II. Alongside gameplay footage provided by IGN during Gamescom, the teams have also released more eye candy for the game with a set of screenshots exclusive to Bloody Disgusting.

This extended gameplay footage and screenshots (which are captured in real time) offer up a glimpse at the upcoming return to the world of Tormented Souls, which has been completely re-imagined from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5. This first reveal shows the haunting beauty of the meticulously designed environments that the original game was praised for, with the developers promising to “elevate the horror experience to unprecedented levels!”

Original Tormented Souls protagonist Caroline Walker returns after her ordeal at Wildberger Hospital. Yearning for a normal life, Caroline is dealt another bad hand when her sister Anna falls victim to a mysterious affliction. When conventional remedies prove ineffective, Caroline looks to the supernatural and an ancient, forbidden ritual for a cure, leading her to the remote South-American community of Puerto Miller.

Founded centuries ago by the secretive Ismuit tribe, Puerto Miller is home to the aforementioned minor religious order that spurned connection with the outside world. As these things go, beneath the town’s crumbling façade lies an ancient, unspeakable horror.

As with the original game, Tormented Souls II sees the return of the fixed camera and twisted puzzles typical of old-school Survival Horror. Caroline will battle formidable foes with only makeshift weapons to defend herself, with the entire game promising to be three times the size of the original Tormented Souls.

Tormented Souls II will arrive in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.
