It’s back for round 3. YouTuber Phil Dickens aka AKblackandred and Will Penkeyman of Resident Evil Central have announced the 2024 edition of The Horror Game Awards will take place on Saturday, December 14 at 4pm ET, and will once again stream on The Horror Game Awards YouTube channel.
The aim of The Horror Game Awards is simple: to celebrate horror as one of the best genres in video games, and to recognise the year’s greatest horror games alongside the developers who make them. Winners of their respective category will receive a coveted claw trophy complete with bloody embellishments.
There are 16 categories this year, with five new additions. Presenters of the awards are content creators and industry professionals, such as the voice of the Resident Evil 4 remake’s Leon Kennedy, Nick Apostolides, and creator of both Dead Space and The Callisto Protocol, Glen Schofield. The full roster includes senior game writer & narrative designer Anna C. Webster, original Clock Tower director Hifumi Kōno, Signalis co-composer Cicada Sirens, accessibility-focussed game developer Morgan Baker, Black Tabby Games founders Tony Howard-Arias and Abby Howard, Hollowbody voice actor Kirsten Ria, and Amnesia: The Bunker creative lead Fredrik Olsson.
Horror streamers and content creators finish off the lineup, with AnEternalEnigma, Ash Millman, LaynaLazar, SuperHorrorBro, 8-BitRyan, and Gh0stArcade also presenting awards on the night.
The Player’s Choice and Best Horror Streamer awards will be decided by a public vote, which opens later this year. Both categories are now open for nominations until November 2, and then go through rounds of voting until a winner is selected.
Meanwhile, the Technical Achievement Award and Lifetime Achievement Award will be decided by a horror game developer jury:

Usagi Tanaka – Art Director of Silent Hill 3 and creator of the iconic Robbie the Rabbit character
Chris Pruett – Director of Games at Meta
Henry Hoare – Designer of Night at the Gates of Hell and Bloodwash, Head of Operations at publisher DreadXP
Stephen Kick – Director of System Shock (2024), Studio Head at Night Dive
Leisha Riddel – Associate Art Director of Dead by Daylight
Mara Cerreti – Lighting Artist for Sledgehammer Games, previously Supermassive Games
Jen Tonon – Product Director at Eyes Out, previously Producer at Bethesda
Corpsetine – Production Coordinator at Gearbox Entertainment
Kelly Yeo – Artist at Blizzard Entertainment
Marielle Fox – Lead Environment Artist at Red Hook Studios
Agustin Cordes – Founder of Senscape, Cinematic Director of Silent Hill: Ascension
Atiya Nova – Solo Developer, User Research Analyst at Ubisoft
Tara Bunker – Digital Media Manager at Supermassive Games
Alistair Hope – Director of Alien: Isolation
Maezza Romero – Community Developer and Manager at Romero Games
All other award winners are decided upon by a separate jury of 60 expert horror fans and horror content creator specialists from all over the world, carefully selected from hundreds of applications. There is also a suite of co-streaming spots soon to be available for creators that are ready to offer commentary, share their platform, and celebrate horror on the night with the HGA team across the internet.
And just in case you missed last year’s edition, Alan Wake II walked away with the prestigious Horror Game of The Year.
