As part of the latest Steam Next Fest, solo dev Rat Cliff Games has announced an updated demo for their upcoming first-person survival horror title Among Ashes. Coinciding with the demo is the announcement that Among Ashes will be included in the 2024 edition of The Indie Horror Showcase presented by DreadXP, which will air October 24th.
A metafictional horror title, Among Ashes is about a haunted video game, and the disturbing story behind its creation. It’s the early 2000s, it’s rainy, and your friend has sent you a link to a horror game that he found online called ‘Night Call’. However, as you play the game, strange things start happening in your apartment, as you find yourself haunted by the dark entities that have latched on to the game. It’s up to you to try and unravel the mystery behind ‘Night Call’ and its creator.
Touted as “the perfect experience for dark October nights,” the updated demo gives players another taste of the game’s opening sequence, in which they download the aforementioned ‘Night Call’ game from a mysterious online forum post, before loading in to explore the labyrinthian halls of Stoker Manor, and coming face-to-face with the terrors that reside within.
Among Ashes is currently in development for PC via Steam, slated to be released later this year.
