Cosmic Horror RPG ‘The Horror at Highrook’ Gains Funding From ‘Among Us’ Creators

After the massive success of Among Us, where do you go next? Developer Innersloth decided to launch its own indie game development fund, OuterSloth, which has already funding seven projects. One of which is The Horror at Highrook, a cosmic horror narrative RPG by Nullpointer Games. The game already has a demo available on Steam, with a private beta planned for next month ahead of its 2025 launch.

Inspired by board-games, wikis, ghost stories and escape rooms, The Horror at Highrook puts players in charge of a team of investigators who must explore a the eponymous Highrook manor. Home to the Ackeron family, a noble house fallen into disrepute. Following rumours of dark pacts and shadowy rituals, the Ackerons have vanished. At the request of the city council, a team of occult investigators (that includes you) has been dispatched to investigate.

Inspired by HP Lovecraft, Edgar Allen Poe and Bram Stoker, you must investigate a gothic-horror mystery through disturbing letters, fraught conversations and and evocative artwork. You must master a deep, nonlinear crafting system as you progress through the story, gaining the strength and insight needed to succeed. Similar to Darkest Dungeon, you will assemble a team of investigators for your quest, made up of the city’s elite guilds, each with their own skills and perspectives. And much like the mechanics of Darkest Dungeon, you must keep your team safe from Hunger, Injury and Madness.

“I’m delighted to be partnering with OuterSloth,” says Tom Betts of Nullpointer Games. “It’s been a rough few years for indies, well, for everyone in the industry really. The Horror at Highrook arose as a result of another larger project deal falling through, and it had been a passion project of mine that had been bubbling away for a few years.”
