Escape a Serial Killer’s Basement in Upcoming First-Person Horror Game ‘Slackjaw’ [Trailer]

Solo developer Nostromo Interactive has taken a cue from films such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre with the “based on true events” trope for their recently-announced first-person horror title Slackjaw on Steam. The announcement was accompanied by a creepy little trailer that immediately gets the tension going with you trapped in a basement, and footsteps thumping on the floor above.

The story for Slackjaw centres around the 2023 true-crime podcast, “In the Jaws of Terror: My Escape from the Slackjaw Killer”. The podcast focuses on an interview with the only known surviving victim of the killer. You play that victim in Slackjaw. Painstakingly recreated from testimony, crime scene photos, and FBI reports, you are brought into the killer’s world, with one question: can you survive?

Powered by the Unreal Engine 5, Slackjaw will take you about an hour to complete. But during that time, you’ll find yourself in the killer’s basement, where you must explore and piece together the secrets within the basement and try to escape. But in order to do so, you’ll need to be quiet, as the Slackjaw Killer is on the floor above you. One sound can have the killer come down the basement stairs, leaving you scrambling to hide and avoid a horrible fate.

Slackjaw is currently slated for release later this year.
