Michael Villella of ‘The Slumber Party Massacre’ Passes Away

A beloved slasher has passed away.

Michael Villella who was best known as the slasher Russ Thorn in The Slumber Party Massacre has passed away at the age of 84, according to a report on Deadline. The actor’s daughter Chloe Villella announced her father’s death Saturday on Facebook. “May you rest in peace daddy,” she wrote with a photo of her dad displayed next to a burning candle.

The Slumber Party Massacre was released on September 10, 1982 in Los Angeles and then two months later in New York City.  The film was shot on a budget of $220,000 and went on to earn $3.6 million at the box office.

Author and feminist activist Rita Mae Brown wrote the original screenplay, titled Sleepless Nights, as a parody of the slasher film. Producers repurposed Brown’s script to make a “serious” slasher film against her wishes.

In addition to Massacre, Villella also appeared in Amazing Stories, Love Letters, Gotham, and Wild Orchid.

The staff of Horror News Network send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Villella’s.
