One of the most exciting filmmakers today will be having his first formal US entry.
Sony Pictures has landed the project Grandgear from Godzilla Minus One director Takashi Yamazaki and Bad Robot, according to a report on Deadline. In addition, Yamazaki will be writing the original screenplay, directing and producing.
Unfortunately, at this time plot details of Grandgear are unknown. We can only wonder what Yamazaki can put forth with a larger budget. Godzilaa Minus One was shot on a budget of $15 million. On that film Yamazaki didn’t just lead the team as director and writer. With a background and established career in visual effects, he was in the trenches with his artists, working alongside them. “There were a chunk of tasks no one was taking, and it came back to me. I had to start planting trees in on a mountain as the director-slash-VFX supervisor,” he told Variety, adding that he also worked on the smoke effects that protrude from the monster’s spine.
