Tim Burton’s ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Streaming on Max This December

After making $450 million at the worldwide box office and proving that the property is still very much beloved, Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is now available on VOD as well as 4K Blu-ray at home. And it’s headed to streaming next month via Max.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice begins streaming exclusively on Max on December 6, 2024.

Michael Keaton returns to his iconic role alongside Oscar nominee Winona Ryder (Stranger Things) as Lydia Deetz and Emmy winner Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek) as Delia Deetz, with new cast members Justin Theroux (The Last Jedi), Monica Bellucci (Spectre), and Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon) in his film debut, with Emmy nominee Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) as Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, and Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Poor Things).

Burton, a genre unto himself, directs from a screenplay by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (Wednesday), story by Gough & Millar and Seth Grahame-Smith (The LEGO® Batman Movie), based on characters created by Michael McDowell & Larry Wilson.

Here’s the official plot synopsis: “After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”

Meagan Navarro wrote in her review of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice for Bloody Disgusting, “This sequel doesn’t push forward or attempt reinvention. Instead, it’s a cozy reunion more interested in vibes and nostalgia. For most, that’ll be more than enough. Burton brings the whimsically macabre style in spades. It’s the perfect phantasmagorical mood setter, suitable for the whole family even when it playfully tests its PG-13 rating on occasion. Keaton hasn’t lost a step, and Burton infuses this sequel with a surprising energy.”

The original classic was directed by Tim Burton in 1988 and has become a cult favorite. It starred Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as ghosts who haunt their old home. When a little girl (Winona Ryder) accidentally unleashes a mischievous ghost (Michael Keaton), the ghosts try to drive the homeowners (Catherine O’Hara and Jeffrey Jones) out of the house.
