Jack Black, Paul Rudd in Talks to Lead ‘Anaconda’ Remake

But Fonda ain’t got a motor in the back of her Honda.

Jack Black and Paul Rudd are in early talks to star in a reimagining of Anaconda, according to a report on The Hollywood Reporter. Columbia Pictures has high hopes to relaunch the franchise for the 2020s.

According to the source, Tom Gormican, who directed The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, is co-writing with collaborator Kevin Etten and will direct the feature. The new story is said to follow a group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth. They head to the rainforest, only to find themselves in a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.

Directed by Luis Llosa and released on April 11, 1997, Anaconda earned $136.8 million at the box office against a budget of $45 million. The film starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Jonathan Hyde, and Owen Wilson.
